René Bakker a 38 years old motorcycle fanatic, left the Netherlands on the 22nd of July 2001 for a trip from New York to Cape Horn.
He left his hometown 4 times before and travelled 125.000 km by motorcycle and car through more than 25 different countries. Amsterdam-Melbourne in 96/97 was his last journey.
Rene was born and raised in a small village called Broekerhaven (Bovenkarspel) close to the old city of Enkhuizen. After elementary school he studied mechanics in Hoorn. He went into the army for a period of 4 month but he did not succeed. He works in several disciplines like motorcycles, Farming machine repair and cellular phone antennas. In '91 he was active as a mechanic for the GP team owned by Jan Huberts with drivers like Hans Spaan and Wilco Zeelenberg. Rene also works as a bartender in several Restaurants and Cafes. He's also an airplane pilot.
Has hobbies like, water-skiing, running, fitness and of course travelling.
