Mighty Mississippi river...

At Winona I cross the Mississippi. It is a magnificent sight to see the enormous river. The whole day long the song about this river plays in my head, I just can't find the name of the Dutch band who, even over here, had a hit with it.
The Mississippi is the 6th longest river on earth (the Amazone is the biggest with 14 times as much water flowing). From north to south it is about 3750 kilometres long. 31 American and 2 Canadian states, about 3 million square kilometres land feeds this waterstream and 685 million mt sant and gravel is transported to the Gulf of Mexico every year. The Mississippi is completely cultivated. Hundreds of dams and locks keep the watermark at the required level, and make it navigable for freight ships.
